My life with HIV - as undramatic as yours

World Aids Day is celebrated on the first of December each year and draws attention to HIV both from a current and historical perspective, in Sweden and internationally.

Around 2,000 people die every day from AIDS around the world and people living with HIV have different experiences, both physically and in terms of knowledge and how HIV affects their daily lives. Living with HIV in 2024 poses many challenges where stigma and ignorance complicate the circumstances of living with HIV.

However, people living with HIV in Sweden are on treatment, which means that HIV cannot be transmitted from the person living with HIV. Regular testing and detection of undiagnosed HIV means that treatment can be started immediately. This in turn allows life to continue as usual and makes living with HIV as undramatic as yours.

You can believe what you want, but there are some things you just need to know.

This is Christian

Christian believes in Santa Claus. Of course Christian can do that. However, Christian knows that HIV is not transmitted from a person living with well-treated HIV - Christian is not an idiot either. You can believe what you want, but there are some things you just need to know.

Red Ribbon lights up and raises awareness of HIV in Sweden

Stockholm, Luleå, Visby and Östersund. Since the premiere in Malmö on December 1, 2022, Röda Bandet has traveled to several cities in Sweden.

The aim is to raise public awareness and knowledge about HIV and that HIV is not transmitted during treatment.

The light installation is built on a steel body and adorned with red diodes. The text on the front of the foot reads "HIV is not contagious during treatment". In total, the foot and band weigh about 250 kg.

Röda Bandet will continue its journey around Sweden. We are happy to collaborate with festivals, events and other gatherings. Contact us if you want to see Röda Bandet as part of your event.

The red ribbon is an international symbol for HIV awareness. Read more here.

European Testing Week is an initiative to encourage more people to get tested for HIV and hepatitis. As a partner organization, HIV-Sweden has for several years created and launched campaigns during the weeks of the initiative, usually in May and November.

The 2023 campaign was a video fronted by Elecktra, known from season 1 of Drag Race Sweden, which was broadcast on SVT in the spring of 2023.

The campaign was based on Elecktra's "Unna dig", an expression that went viral during Drag Race Sweden. The video was promoted on Instagram and Facebook.

Three keys to better public health work on HIV

In connection with Almedalen 2023, HIV-Sweden presented three proposals to improve and develop work on HIV in Sweden. The proposals are based on the programme of ideas and aim to highlight challenges and offer solutions that can be implemented at national and regional level.

The three proposals are available in printed form and in a larger poster format. The adjacent images are taken from Almedalen Week 2023.
